Blocked gutters push water back towards the wall. That shows up as damp patches inside, stained render outside and, left long enough, rotten fascia and soffit. It is one of the cheapest problems to prevent and one of the more expensive to fix.
Gutters are often worth doing at the same time as a roof, because the moss and debris coming off the roof ends up in them.
